Agora at the Collective

Washington D.C.

Constructed as the second stage of a unique three-phase project in southeast DC, the developer envisioned “The Collective” as a community of residences that shares amenity spaces, including a vast rooftop deck that connects across all three buildings of the block. The eleven-story Agora building sits prominently between Canal Park and the southeast freeway in the vibrant Navy Yard neighborhood in Southeast DC. Rooftop amenities, green roofs, and streetscapes, were all designed to meet the District’s rigorous stormwater and Green Area Ratio requirements while achieving LEED Silver certification.  The Whole Foods outdoor café seating on the ground floor activates the wide streetscape along New Jersey Avenue, which is a vital link to Capitol Hill Neighborhood and federal center to the north.

Arriving at the rooftop terrace, one is invited to explore the residential amenities. A wood deck defines the outdoor kitchen and includes a custom crafted wood seating terrace that leads towards the upper pool deck. Here, commanding views overlook the cityscape as the sky is reflected in the water of the swimming pool. A 90-foot long infinity edge defines one end while a custom bench seat coupled with angled seating nooks defines the other and gives way to a lower splash pool. Fire pits provide opportunities for intimate gatherings where visitors can watch the setting sun bathe the U.S. Capitol dome in a warm glow. Outdoor living rooms provide spaces to host events or other gatherings and a gated turf area provides a perfect escape for residents and their pets.
