1600 Tysons Boulevard

ParkerRodriguez provided landscape architecture services for this 300,000 square foot office tower and adjacent parking structure. Working within the constraints of a small site, a garage entry at the building's front door, fire access issues and grading constraints, we successfully created distinctive spaces which engage users experiencing the landscape both at ground level and from their offices above.

By playing with geometries, light screening and false perspective, the design makes the site seem larger than it is. A serpentine path connecting the front door to the garden draws the eye outward from the entry to a space with a sculpture at the far end of the garden. Eliminating the curb at the front door and creating a plaza that extends across the entry drive emphasizes to drivers that this is a pedestrian space. A dense grove of multi-stemmed birches span from the center of the turn-around to the front of the parking garage, creating a greater sense of depth while screening the parking garage and connecting the island to the larger landscape.
