51 LA Avenue

Across the street from the grounds of the U.S. Capitol Building this historic office building is the home of Jones Day renowned legal firm. In 2005 JBG commissioned world famous architect Sir Richard Rodgers to design a new building adjacent to their two historic structures and link all of the buildings together with a new glass atrium and entrance plaza facing Union Station. ParkerRodriguez was chosen to collaborate with the London based architectural firm on all the landscape elements of the site.

The atrium features an elevator "tree". The tree has pedestrian ramp bridges linking the disparate floor levels of the three buildings. PRI proposed a common ground plane treatment to seamlessly link the interior atrium and exterior entrance plaza through the cable truss glazing wall of the atrium. The stainless steel accented floor has bump-up illumination skimming across the metal elements. The building's vents were cleverly incorporated into a stone bench and fountain that invites visitors into to the atrium.
