Village Center at Belmont Greene

Originally planned by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Compnay (DPZ) in 1988, the second residential phase was modified by ParkerRodriguez in 2000 to respond to different market conditions.

The second phase was a great financial success, but ParkerRodriguez advocated relocation of the retail to the periphery of the community to capture a larger retail market area. The County and residents were insistent, however, that the original DPZ main street retail concepts be adopted. PRI planners designed a retail market district with three components, a "mainstreet" retail shopping area, a market area and a convenience market parcel. Working closely with Bignell Watkins Architects and retail developers, PRI planners were able to fashion an attractive pedestrian-friendly main street that the residents and County were delighted with and a more conventional market and convenience center that met the needs of the more convenional retailers.
