Potomac Center

The Mills Corporation wanted to capitalize on their very successful 1.5 million s.f. Potomac Mills Outlet Center by creating a 1.3 million s.f. Mixed-use new-urbanism Main Street retail complex east of their existing center. ParkerRodriguez was selected to help plan, design and provide landscape architectural services for the huge complex. PRI was also instrumental in winning approvals for the project.

The topography, access and site constraints, including overhead utility lines were particularly challenging. Working closely with the architects, D'Agostino, Izzo & Quirk and 505 Design, ParkerRodriguez designed a gracefully curving street lined with shops, restaurants, hotel and residential apartments over the retail.

The theme and character adopted by the designers built on the surrounding natural woodlands along the slopes that buffered the site and created a highly contemporary architectural vocabulary within a naturalistic landscape paradigm.
