Canal Place at the Waterfront

ParkerRodriguez developed a master plan for a fifteen-block area in Southeast Washington DC, adjacent to the Navy Yard and the Southeast Federal Center. The vision for Canal Place is to develop a vibrant urban village with a strong sense of place rooted in its history, while creating a unique character reflecting the Washington of the new millennium.

The Canal Place plan strengthens its sense of place by providing strong links to the Waterfront and reintroducing the Historic Tiber Canal as conceived by L'Enfant. The plan proposes a mixed-use core surrounding the new canal with shops and special streetscape treatment that will help activate this new urban park. The new residential blocks will occur where public housing exists today and will provide new housing consisting of mixing market rate units open to existing relocated residents.
