The Escher

Rockville | MD

The Escher is an enticing and contemporary urban infill project that transforms a vacant 5.29 acre parking lot into a wonderful mixed-use development that is a catalyst for the emerging Twinbrook neighborhood. The makover includes a new "paseo" private drive that defines a signature public plaza space that is accessible to both the public and private residents. Creating a vista from Chapman Avenue to visually split the site into two parcels. A second phase will include approximately 70 townhomes and frame the Escher's dramatic six-story glass walls. This plaza also visually terminates into the large landscaped courtyard that is a central feature of the project.

The courtyard is fed from the main floor amenity space and is a unique gathering space for residents. Amenities were carefully considered and chosen for the residents. Grilling stations at an outdoor kitchen feature custom wood wall panels that define the space. Adjacent to the grills is an outdoor seating area with movable dining tables and cafe chairs. Pockets of lounge seating is scattered throughout the space and include custom fire features. A custom pergola structure is a central feature within the design and has been a noteworthy focal element for all who visit the courtyard.

The Escher achieved a LEED Silver rating and is a recipient of the 2020 NAIOP DC/MD award for Best Multi-Family Project.
